The short answer: December through early April. The southern dry season brings still mornings, warm evenings and the clearest light on the lake.
May to September is quieter and greener. Rain tends to arrive in short, dramatic bursts in the late afternoon, and rates drop accordingly — our favourite months for anyone who wants the jetty entirely to themselves.
Yala National Park usually closes for maintenance in September, so if a leopard is high on your list, plan around it. We can always arrange Bundala or Lunugamvehera instead.
